COMMON QUESTIONS

WHAT ARE SUNDAYS LIKE?

Sunday services start at 11:15 a.m. at the Verbal Arts Centre, BT48 6PU, and last until about 12:30PM. We begin with announcements followed by prayer, and we worship God through our tithes and offerings. (We don’t invite our guests to participate in the offering, it’s for those who call DBF their home.) We continue the service with worshipful singing. Every time you come to DBF, we’re going to open God’s Word. DBF is a Bible-preaching and Bible-teaching church. This means we take a portion of Scripture and dissect it and apply it to our lives. DBF places a HUGE emphasis on expository Bible teaching and preaching.

We also have a fun-filled service for children that runs alongside the message time. We close with a song, and then most people stay for a chat over tea, coffee, biscuits, and sometimes food. A small lunch is typically provided for the children. We generally celebrate the Lord’s Supper (communion) every quarter.

WHAT ARE TUESDAYS LIKE?

Our Bible Study and Prayer is at 11 Grove Place, BT48 6JT, and starts at 7:00 p.m. and usually finishes around 8:15 p.m. Most people arrive early for fellowship over tea, coffee, and biscuits. We begin by sharing prayer needs and praises and then pray together. An informal Bible study follows this. There is a mix of people attending who are new to studying the Bible and those who have done it for a long time. Those seeking answers and skeptics are always welcome, no matter their background. Everyone is welcome to participate in discussing the selected passage as the Pastor leads us in discovering what it means and how to apply it in our lives. Learn more and receive a free Bible.

WHAT ABOUT MY KIDS?

On Sundays, children begin the service with the adults, but when the message starts, they leave for a class to learn stories from the Bible with kid-level energy in a safe and fun environment. Your children will sing, memorize scripture, and do a craft/color that supports the story they hear. Those who work with children have been vetted and trained. Children are always welcome to stay in the entire service with their parents if preferred. Babies, along with their cries, are very welcome in the adult service and children’s service.

WHAT DO I WEAR?

Some people ask, so we wanted to cover it. DBF doesn’t have a dress code. Full Stop. Wear what you feel is appropriate. Come as you are and expect to feel welcomed as our guest.

DO I HAVE TO BE A BAPTIST TO ATTEND?

Absolutely not! You do not need to be a Christian or Baptist. We desire everyone to feel comfortable attending our services and engaging in our community. We want DBF to be a place where you can ask questions and wrestle with what you believe about God and truly realise everyone is welcome, and also a place where all people can find hope in Jesus!

WILL I BE JUDGED?

Have you ever been to a church where you didn’t feel welcome or felt like you were judged? Yeah, us too. This is not that place.

Is your life not perfect? Welcome to the club. Maybe you’re really embarrassed to even show your face in church. Yeah, we’ve been there. There is hope in Jesus and His church. Find out about Him and His grace here at DBF.

ABOUT US

Derry

Derry

Jesus told us to love our neighbors, and we want people in Derry to experience the fulfilling spiritual life that God gives to those who exclusively trust in Jesus. We are ordinary people from the Cityside, Waterside, international community, and different backgrounds who love living in Derry, a city known for the peace process, hope, and forgiveness.

Baptist

Baptist

Being a Christian is not something you are born into; rather, Jesus invites us to exclusively choose to trust in Him as Saviour and receive the new spiritual life that only He can give. Learn More

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

This is when Christian life beginsfollowed by baptism by immersion; that is, the person goes underwater and then rises out of it, which is a physical sign of the spiritual change Christ has already brought.

Fellowship

Fellowship

Jesus never spoke about the church as a building but rather as a community of people committed to pointing each other and the world to a personal relationship with Jesus. We study God’s timeless, relevant words to us, pray together, encourage each other, and serve together. Jesus Christ is the head of our fellowship, and all members are brothers and sisters in Christ, therefore totally equal in the sight of God.

Acts 2:42, And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

LEADERSHIP

Pastor

James Wilson is the pastor of Derry Baptist Fellowship. He is originally from Donegal but has lived most of his life in Derry and abroad in Corby, England.

He has a vision to reach people for Christ, train men, and plant churches, specifically in the northwest region of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

When he is not working toward that end, James enjoys watching football, looking into his family history, watching boxing, and chilling in peace and quiet.

If you want to get in contact with him, you can message him on Facebook , email him at info@derryfellowship.ie, or phone at +44 7963 601115

Josh and Bethany Furan love serving at Derry Baptist Fellowship. They are originally from Nashville, Tennessee, but have lived in Derry since 2022. They are passionate about seeing people experience new spiritual life in Jesus, grow as followers of Jesus, and see new churches started in the Northwest of Ireland. They serve in various ministries at Derry Baptist and seek to help DBF become a reproducing church in the future. On their day off they love exploring Inishowen with their two wee girls.
